In this video, I dive into the performance of AWS instances, specifically focusing on cost and carbon footprint. I introduce a tool called Greenscale.ai developed by Nandesh Guru, which provides real-time granularity data. I explain the importance of validating claims about the efficiency of Amazon Graviton instances compared to Intel or AMD x86 instances. To test this, we launched two instances and subjected them to a video processing workload using FFmpeg. I share the results, highlighting the cost, energy consumption, and carbon footprint. I also discuss the carbon intensity per video processed and the impact of choosing the right region. Finally, I invite viewers to replicate the benchmark and share their findings.
